Hundsrück has only been managed independently as a vineyard in Bürgstadt since 2011. What a stroke of luck, as this south-facing site with a slope of up to 40% is one of the best Pinot sites in Germany. This is also due to the 0.5 to 3 meter thick layer of ferrous weathering on bare rock, which only allows for low yields, but which are highly complex. A multi-faceted red fruit with juicy, ripe acidity characterizes the 2016 Hundsrück. It alternates between Amarena cherry, Pinot-typical raspberry, cassis and plums. These are joined by heartier tones such as smoky bacon, some tobacco and hints of mushrooms and rosemary. All of this is incredibly tightly interwoven and forms a compact unit – yet always retains its elegant appearance.
