More information about Wagner Merkendorf lager unspun In Franconia, most beer drinkers are familiar with the term „unrounded“. No wonder, as it is a tradition in Upper Franconia to brew unbung beers. Wooden barrels are usually sealed with a plug in the bunghole so that bung pressure can build up and carbon dioxide can form. This would not work with the long storage period that a lager beer undergoes, as the pressure would become too high in the long term. The bung was therefore removed so that the lager could mature in peace. The result is an extremely drinkable beer with mild carbonation and low foam development. The Wagner brewery in Merkendorf also has this traditional beer style in its range. The Unspunded lager from Wagner impresses with its full-bodied character and palatable 5.3% alcohol content. The Franconian beer specialty flows into the glass in a clear golden hue and exudes a seductive aroma of toasted malt, oven-fresh bread and a hint of floral hops. The first sip reveals a medium body with a great malt profile and refreshing hop aromas. Earthy notes of caramel, nuts, honey, stone-baked bread and roasted grain are joined by hoppy aromas that taste of freshly mown grass and blooming flowers. A noble bitterness skillfully rounds off the interplay of aromas and gives the beer contrast. The finish is dry and mildly bitter.
