Pahlmeyer calls the 2021 vintage „outstanding‘ on its website – and the estate’s Napa Valley Merlot is perfect proof of this assessment. It offers a seamless combination of intensity and density on the one hand and finesse and elegance on the other, with blackberries, cassis and dark plums as the fruity core, congenially accompanied by black olives and earthy tones. Finely polished tannins, cedar wood and herbal notes – especially sage – round off this furious spectacle of flavours characterised by deep sensuality on a remarkably long finish. One of the great single-varietal Merlots of the wine world.
