More information about Columbia Supremo coffee Coffee has been grown in Colombia since the beginning of the 19th century. The first coffee plants were probably brought into the country by a clergyman from the Lesser Antilles via Venezuela.Today, Colombia is the third most important coffee producer after Brazil and Vietnam with almost 13 million bags of green coffee (70 kg each). Due to the excellent climatic conditions (the growing regions are located in the foothills of the Andes, where the climate is warm and humid), coffee can be harvested almost all year round.Colombian coffee is highly valued in Germany because it is of consistently good quality. Germany imports around 25% of its total coffee requirements from Colombia.The coffee farmers‘ association, the FNCC (Federación National de Cafeteros de Colombia), has made the preservation of this high quality its top priority. Like the BSCA in Brazil, it is also involved in health and education, finances the construction and further development of infrastructure and works in research.
