More information about Abbot Andreas Dunkel Brewing has been going on in Mitterteich for more than 500 years. Abbot Andreas was the bearer of the brewing rights and is still thanked and honored today. At Hösl, the man of God and his good deed are honored with a special beer: Abt Andreas Traditionstrunk is a fine dark beer made according to a time-honored recipe from the monastery. The beer has a full-bodied character and is malty. Strong roasted malt provides the intense flavor and subtle sweetness.The beery homage to Abbot Andreas shimmers in the darkest shade of mahogany in the glass and is adorned with a fleeting crown of airy, hazelnut-brown foam. A spicy aroma of roasted nuts, caramel and toasted cereals fills the nose. The first sip is velvety smooth and delivers flattering notes of toasted bread crust, roasted walnuts, creamy caramel and dark malt. A fine acidity accompanies the drinking pleasure and is slightly reminiscent of the tart roasted notes of an espresso. Towards the finish, the beer gains a dry spiciness until the hops take over and provide a bitter finish.Abbot Andreas would certainly have enjoyed this fine drop! We certainly enjoy this dark beer and appreciate the intensity of aroma with a pleasant 4.9% alcohol content and an elegant body.
